Luke & Annie Get Hitched

Essentials For Guests

As you make your way to the venue, either the day before or day of the event, please feel encouraged to enjoy the property not only the party!  The high meadow and spruce forest is open for wandering, kites are almost always a wonderful success in the meadows, and for those staying overnight, the star scape at Spruce Knob is quite literally some of the best you can get this side of the Mississippi.

Whether you want to go off the path into the mossy pine woods, or take a leisurely walk along the main gravel tracks throughout the property, we hope that you will enjoy the space as well as the company while you're here.

How to Enjoy Being At The Venue

  • Camp at the Venue : Tent camping will be available on site at the venue.  For those planning on doing this, please feel free to arrive on Friday evening, but there's no guarantee that you won't be asked to lend a hand if you're around.  The camping is primitive, but is located within convenient walking distance from the bath house at the main venue, and is one of the most spectacular places to wake up to in the morning in our humble opinions.  RV's can not be accommodated on site, but there are numerous RV friendly camp grounds in the immediate vicinity.

  • Hotel Block :We have reserved a hotel block at the Tygart Hotel in Elkins, WV.  This is approximately 1.25 hours from the venue.  You can book a room in that block HERE.  The block rate is available Thursday night through Tuesday night, but any length of stay can be reserved.  This hotel is the end result of a beautiful and meaningful project we are delighted to share with our guests.

  • Book Locally: Our local area is full of b&b options, RV & Tent Camping with a few quaint hotels sprinkled in.  We strongly suggest you BOOK SOON.  The Hermitage Inn, in Petersburg, the Monterey Inn, in Monterey, VA, and the Germany Valley Overlook Cabins are a few of the locations we recommend and can gladly provide more suggestions.

Lodging Information

  • Mountainside Formal.  What does that mean?  Sturdy shoes and/or boots - dainty heels and high-shine patent leather not recommended.  Attire that can handle a good bit of movement.

  • The nights cool down a lot on Spruce Knob so bring a sweater or other outer layer.

  • Weatherproof jacket or shell (umbrellas not recommended), as well as a wet-proof backup pair of shoes to be left in the car are also encouraged.

Travel Advice

Many conveniences you might be used to are not available in immediate proximity to the venue.  Think ahead and note the distance to amenities you may need to access prior to your arrival!  (i.e. gas stations, fast food, big box stores).

Local grocery stores and other conveniences tend to have shorter hours, and many are closed on Sundays.

Other Advice

  • The road in and out of the venue is narrow and gravel.  Please give yourself ample time to get in and out!  We recommend adding at least 20 minutes to the predicted travel time suggested by most map apps.

  • Vehicles with particularly low clearance should proceed with caution, especially on the driveway entrance to the venue.  Slow and steady wins the race, and protects your undercarriage.  If you can come in a higher clearance vehicle, do it!

Getting To & From

  • Cell service is limited or not available in much of the area surrounding the venue and zero on site.  There is wifi available but communication between iOS and Android phones is not supported over wifi.  WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are effective alternatives.

  • When navigating to the venue we encourage you to use the "download for offline" function (available in google maps), or printed map for directions to and from the venue.

If You're Bringing Kids

The venue we are blessed to be using for our festivities serves as an educational center most of the time, so it's a wonderfully kid-friendly space overall.  That being said, it's also a very wild space! (this is why we chose it!).

There will be plenty of kid-friendly activities and play spaces, as well as a quiet space indoors for when little ones need a break.  Please do feel free to explore the entire property with curious minds, but also be mindful of the location and activities of your child so that they as well as everyone else can enjoy their evening!

People Only Please.

We love our furry friends, and yours too.  However we ask that all pets be left at home or with caretakers elsewhere during the celebration.

We Are Guests Of The Mountain

Whether you are coming for the day, or staying all weekend, we ask that you join us in being respectful of the property and the natural environment around us.  Be conscientious with your trash, with your vehicles, and as you explore the space.  We encourage you to wander and enjoy, but ask that you keep in mind that we are guests of the long term residents (plant, animal and human) at this beautiful location.
